New CDC Data on Smoking Trends |
|
From 1998 to 2008, the proportion of American adults who were current cigarette smokers declined by 3.5%, dropping from 24.1% to 20.6%, according to data from the CDC. The report, available at www.cdc.gov/mmwr, noted that the proportion did not change significantly from 2007 (19.8%) to 2008 (20.6%). Education level appeared to have an effect on smoking prevalence.
