Bariatric Surgery Improves Coronary Atherosclerosis |
|
Gastric bypass surgery appears to result in significant improvements in inflammatory, structural, and functional markers of coronary atherosclerosis, according to findings from an Ohio study group. At 24 months follow-up, patients who underwent gastric bypass surgery demonstrated a decrease in mean BMI. These patients also exhibited carotid intima-media thickness regression, flow-mediated dilation improvement, and decreased high-sensitivity C-reactive protein.
