Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy Effective for RCC
Long-term oncological outcomes after laparoscopic radical nephrectomy for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) appear to be comparable to those of open surgery. A small study found that actual 10-year overall, cancer-specific, and recurrence-free survival rates were 65%, 92%, and 86%, respectively, in RCC patients. Overall, cancer-specific, and recurrence-free survival rates at 12 years were 35%, 78%, and 77%, respectively. In the future, the authors recommended that long-term studies seek to define the optimal imaging protocols for long-term follow-up after the procedure.
