Comparing Radical Hysterectomy & Radiotherapy |
|
Women with cervical cancer lesions smaller than 6 cm appear to benefit more when they are treated with radical hysterectomy than when they receive primary radiation, according to an American study. Overall, a 59% reduction in mortality rate was associated with radical hysterectomy in the investigation. For tumors smaller than 4 cm and those between 4 cm and 6 cm, survival improved by 62% and 49%, respectively. The authors added that “among women with tumors that were greater than 6 cm, survival was equivalent between radical hysterectomy and radiation.”
