Assessing Risk of CVD Among Cancer Survivors |
|
Survivors of childhood and adolescent cancer appear to be at substantial risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to national research. Investigators found that survivors of cancer were significantly more likely than siblings to report CVDs such as congestive heart failure (hazard ratio, 5.9), myocardial infarction (hazard ratio, 5.0), pericardial disease (hazard ratio, 6.3), or valvular abnormalities (hazard ratio, 4.8). “The cumulative incidence of adverse cardiac outcomes in cancer survivors continued to increase up to 30 years after diagnosis.”
