Many Radiation Oncologists Using Advanced Imaging
A study team in California has found that advanced imaging technologies appear to be widely used by radiation oncologists in the United States for target delineation. The proportion of survey respondents using any advanced imaging technology for target delineation was 95%. The majority of respondents used these technologies in 25% to 50% of their patients, but the frequency of utilization is expected to increase. The common cancers treated using image-guided target delineation were those of the:

      • Lung: 83%.

      • Central nervous system: 79%.

      • Head and neck: 79%.

Nearly one-third (30%) of non-users of advanced imaging technologies planned to adopt them in the future.
