Tailored Statin Interventions Help Prevent CAD Events
     A tailored treatment strategy appears to help prevent more coronary artery disease (CAD) events while treating fewer people with high-dose statins than LDL cholesterol-based target approaches, according to a national study. Researchers compared tailored treatments based on a person’s 5-year CAD risk with treat-to-target approaches that escalate statin doses per National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) III guidelines. Psychiatric Disorders Common After Traumatic Injuries
     A significant range of psychiatric disorders appears to occur after traumatic injuries, according to findings from a prospective cohort study. At 1 year after injury, 31% of patients reported a psychiatric disorder, and 22% developed a psychiatric disorder that they had never experienced before. [ More ]
Assessing Preventive Drug Use in Stroke Survivors
     Swedish research suggests that persistent secondary prevention treatment declines rapidly during the first 2 years after stroke, particularly for statins and warfarin. The proportion of patients who were persistent users of drugs prescribed at hospital discharge declined progressively over the first 2 years. [ More ]
